I have a friend who has a mortgaged leasehold flat and she has been charged vat from her landlord for management fees - I'm sure that is correct but just wanted to check
its actually quite correct that the landlord charges VAT.
The only time that VAT would not be charged in this scenario is where the landlord is small and is hence not obligated to be registered for VAT (although such may still choose to ragister).
You will find that many people who rent out just one or two properties are not VAT registered so no VAT was be payable in those instances.
HTH,
Shaun.
