Looking to Study IAB - Help Needed Please!
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone

I stumbled across this forum whilst searching for IAB courses. Looks a gold mine of information so looking forward to getting involved.

I'm looking at studying with the IAB and looking for any opinions / feedback on the Home Learning College who offer IAB distance learning. Also looking at Training Link who my friend studied with but they only offer the ICB course's.

I'm open to alternatives like the CAT but my husbands accountant recommended the IAB (he hadn't heard of the IAB or CAT?).

Would be really grateful if anyone has any recommendations or feedback on the above.

Look forward to chatting.

Thanks.

Sarah

Hi Sarah

Welcome to the forum!

I've not used either providers myself but there has been some positive feedback on here for Training Link.

I also wouldn't rule out the ICB or CAT, both of which are very well respected qualifications. I appreciate not all accountants will have heard of them. I sometimes think it's as though some accountants live in their own little bubble where the only accounting qualifications that exist are ACCA and ACA.hmm

Best of luck!smile

Hi Sarah,

I would say that it's worth giving the IAB, ICB and AAT a look, although my personal preference is AAT.

The CAT qualification that you mention is the first level of ACCA, but I don't know much about it so can't comment. I believe Shaun may be able to shed some more light on CAT, as he is somewhat of an ACCA font of knowledge on the forum.

Hi Sarah,

there have been a lot of threads on here about the very high prices and dodgy sales techiques of HLC. (Home learning college). Better distance learning companies to think about might be Ideal Schools, Training Link or Premier training. They don't all offer courses with all bodies but all of them come highly recommended from site members.

Although your accountant should know about the CAT qualification it's actually now fallen by the wayside. I think that December was the last sitting although I could be mistaken (the ACCA websites virtually inaccessible since they had the upgrade so difficult for me to check at the moment).

The ACCA's new replacement entry level qualification is the FIA (Foundations in Accountancy) or alternatively you could go straight for the ACCA professional qualification although you may wish to search the site for issues that members are having with regulation 8 before signing up to a qualification that may actually cost you thousands (even by the self study route) only to actively prevent you from using the qualification commercially (again, just do a search of the site for regulation 8).

HTH for starters, feel free to post follow up questions and hopefully we'll be able to guide you through the minefield to the qualification and training provider that are right for you

welcome to the forum,

Shaun.

Many thanks for the replies.

I won't rule our the ICB or others at the moment as trying to keep an open mind. Wasn't aware the CAT was stopping so I'll take a look at the FIA which sounds interesting.

Look forward to chatting more soon.

Sarah
