This is the first time I've heard of it, and looking I see it's another cloud based system - I guess we'll be seeing more and more of these over time.

To be honest, I'm not yet sold on the idea of cloud based accounting, though I don't have much experience of using any, other than one - Neetrix, which I've only just started using.

Sage already has its own online software - Sage One.

I've been using Xero for several months for various clients and I really like it. I especially appreciate the direct bank / paypal feeds or the ability to upload csv files of these transactions. Makes the whole reconciliation process (esp of paypal) far easier and, I believe, more accurate. I haven't tried any other cloud based software, but would recommend Xero over Sage/Quickbooks standard software any day as it's so user friendly.

Standard cloud software, I'm slightly disbelieving that almost everyone hasn't already heard of it.

It has good reports from users and bookkeepers/accountants and it's own Twitter account for users.

Hiya,

to be honest I've only heard of it myself through this site and it doesn't get mentioned on here that much.

Mind you. That could well be down to me sticking my fingers in my ears and going la-la-la... Everytime that anyone mentions anything to do with cloud offerings.

Don't you miss the good old days when you just bought a peice of software and could use it with as many clients as you had?

Nowadays it all seems to be about cloud computing and pay every month forever or the sage approach which is to tax you on how successful you are for which reason I have made the decision to ban all Sage products from my practice... So far so good!

Actually, I worked with an insurance company a few years back (around the millenium) and they actually banned all Microsoft products for a similar reason. In that intance you don't realise how good Microsoft products are until you haven't got them.

The company policy failed when the management realised that all of the consultants (myself included) had taken to bringing in our own laptops with Word and Excel on them and then porting the finished results accross to Lotus to keep the client happy.

We have our own offline bookkeeping software and having looked around at what is on the market, tried a few and (for now) we've decided to partner with Xero.

Online software like Xero opens up new opportunities around a) collaboration with clients and b) providing advice around technology/business systems.

We like that with online software the client can raise sales invoices and do their own credit control on a daily basis. We as the bookkeeper/accountant can taking care of purchase ledger, bank and VAT on a monthly or quarterly basis. We can also work on the same file at the same time.

We can also help clients with technology/business systems. For example, a client's Website e-commerce shop can be connected to Xero and/or Xero also connect to CRM or project management systems. This allows us to add value by helping clients become more effective in their marketing and operations.
