Which software to use for my ICB training
Permalink Closed

Hi there, I'm on currently doing my Level 3 training up to exams and although I have been using Kashflow up to now (primarily because I am an Apple owner and Sage don't design for Apple), I'm now thinking that I should probably be using Sage instead.  I am now replacing my husband's laptop so can get Sage 50; my other concern being that my training has been designed for Sage and I'm assuming that my exams will assume Sage too?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this please - I would really like some feedback before I do anything major?

Thanks

Hi Laura,

the ICB exams are firmly designed around Sage 50 however, the course description is computerised bookkeeping, not Sage bookkeeping and the ICB have said in the past that they will work around your software.

I know that some people have done the ICB exams using VT Transaction+ and passed even though not all reports required in the exam are available (You can drop a few points and still score a good pass).

I can't remember which post James answered a similar query in but all in all if your software is able to produce reports similar to the Sage ones then you should be ok.

Might be worth getting this confirmed by James though so hope you don't mind but I've changed the title to include the word ICB.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Thank you Shamus, that's great and I will give it some more thought and wait to hear from James too.

Kind regards

Hi Laura,

Have you heard anything more about this from ICB?

I am an Apple owner also due to being a Graphic Designer/Photographer in my other life and I actually want to focus my business on 'the creatives' so its likely that my clients will also be using a mac, therefore, I would like software to suit both mac and PC. I am just at the start of my ICB and could borrow a PC if I HAD to use sage but I use currently use Xero at work and have used Clearbooks previously, so it would be ideal if I could use one of these! Don't want to lose marks because I am simply using the wrong software though!!

Would be interested to hear ICB's take on it.

Thanks!

Hello there!

Only just come across this post.

ICB's exams are no longer 'firmly designed around Sage' and are now designed so that you can use any major software package (including but not limited to Sage, Xero, VT, Quickbooks, MYOB etc)

However, some of the packages use different terminology for the reports, or they may produce 2 reports instead of just 1. This is not a problem, as long as you produce the information required, the layout is not so important.

Best of luck!
