Sage update problem with a company

Before I went down the route of subcontracting I got someone to send me a file back up to see if it worked on my sage, we are both using the same version but after it restored the backup I discovered it was on a different update. Tried updating mine and there are no updates. Any ideas as I can't remove the company, even tried installing sage on a spare laptop and had the same problem when I tried to set up a company.
