IFA membership by accreditation of prior learning

Following on from the really useful link from Shamus (Shaun), has anyone on here obtained membership of the IFA (Institute of Financial Accountants) by going down the route of accreditation of prior learning?

This seems ideal for someone like me who never took a professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA etc). I'm too long in the tooth for ACCA etc now, so being able to become a qualified accountant without having to take any exams seems perfect!

Yes in the end I did. I had to gather together a work folder which at the time was quite easy for me as I had been asked by the company I worked for to produce some of the same accountancy reports for a number of major suppliers and I was doing about 90% of what they wanted in my employment or for my practice. I was a IAB member in practice at the time, but I wanted to join the IFA at a higher level than my IAB exemptions would give me.

It was the 10% which took a bit longer, but I enjoyed doing it. Oh and also I had to get the MD (as he was technically my supervisor), to sign a declaration confirming it was my own work. He was so terrified of signing it he checked every page of the contents of the folder first!

I went down the accreditation of prior learning and work experience route too and was made a Fellow in October last year.

I had to get two independent accountants to verify that I was capable of the work.
