Do you have to pay to attend?

after searching on the internet, most that I have come across require you to pay in order to attend

Yes, generally there is a fee. Anything from around £5 to cover tea/coffee to £25 for a full dinner.
Some also have a membership subscription on top.

Office drinks are a good place to start. Only £10 and that includes a buffet and a pub quiz after. Set in a pub/eatery from normally 6:30 till 9, really relaxed atmosphere, and they are normally local to you. Most of all they are limited to 25 people so your not overwhealmed when you get there 5 tables of 5 people, I'm off to my first one tomorrow night! :D

I'll let you know how it goes!

4N are quite good too, or at least my local one used to be, not been for a while. They are £10 per meeting.

Gary,
Like the idea of the one in the pub!

Let us know how you get on and if you think it was worth while.

Networking events are fun and great for forming long term relationships but you will unlikely get instant business.

Hi Dalbir,

that very much reflects Rob's (Robh, creator of the "there or there abouts" methodology) view but for the life of me I haven't been able to find his excellent article on networking.

I'll have another look as it's about time we dug that one up again.

Whats the betting after looking for it twice before I go straight to it this time!

There's this one:

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/index.spark?aBID=106474&p=3&topicID=34240354&page=1

and also this one

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t38088606/the-minute-speech-when-networking/

Both full of excellent advice from Rob (and a wee bit from others including myself).

Still not convinced that I found the one that I was really looking for though. confuse

Right, went to my first network event last night! (the pub one i talked about above) I dont know what I was expecting but this one wasn't it... it was far more relaxed and friendly than I thought. The name of the event is 'Office Drinks' Its limited to 25 people and not restrictive on trades (so there can be more than one of you doing the same job). Sadly there was only 7 out of 25 of us there last night! but there was a more popular event happening the same night so that didn't help. A short pub quiz in the middle of the night really helped too, relaxed us even more! But due the the numbers it kinda fell apart after that and we just chated to whomever we liked. Unfortunatly the was one woman there who had too many (but im sure you get that being in a pub!) and she just got a bit too roudy, saying things like 'i dont like the name of your business' i stayed away from her... she looked scary! lol :/

If asked i would go again, and this event is IDEAL for those who have never doen networking before, i got loads of advice from the 'oldies' there (not age, just experiance is these events) told me to try out several other events in my home town and that they never work right away, and it will take time to get new customers. Which is fine as i intend to go more events soon!

Find them on twitter Amanda on @officedrinks only £10 for a 2 1/2 hour event! :D
