How long does it normally take for HMRC to make payment when they owe a return?

I filed an amendment to my husbands 10-11 return on the evening of 9th May and the refund is hitting our account tomorrow. I filed his 11-12 return on Sunday and that refund is currently showing as pending, so would guess another few days.

You need to go into view account, then select the appropriate tax year (05 Apr 12 in your case). It then shows a breakdown, and if you click on tax it should show you what's happening.
