I'm new to the forum and very new to VT, having entered some transactions, some in the wrong date order (semi-deliberately) I can't now sort the first column by date. Can anyone tell me how to do this, or, if it can't be done, is there a reason why not ?
The home page on VT can't be changed, it is just a list of entries.
If you run reports it normally defaults to date order, or you can select to display in reference number order. At the bottom of the report screen there is a diamond shaped button "Selected/ sorted by date", click this and it will sort by reference number.
Thanks Bill, I'm a small business owner and an accountant I'm thinking of employing has suggested I use VT, but I'm not sure that it's simple and user friendly enough for a non-accountant such as myself to get to grips with. Would you have any advice on what might be a better package for me to use that's not horrendously expensive, or should I just grapple with VT ?
depends on the size of your business and your knowledge of bookkeeping.
VT needs you to basically be a bookkeeper to use it properly but that said, for basic, repetitive transactions it's fine for anyone to use but for that you only need VT cashbook which is free rather than VT Transaction+ which is not.
For many small businesses there is little to beat Excel for flexibility but it's a sandbox so if you are not clear on what you are looking to achieve it may not be best for you (or your accountant).
Personally I would ask for your accountant to give you a brief introduction to the software that they want you to adopt as at the end of the day it's to their advantage for you to be able to use it properly.
I use VT but I don't expect my clients to. In fact, I prefer it if they just use Excel as it's far easier to sort things out from scratch than to unwind what a client has already done.
HTH,
Shaun.
