Passed all 3 manual ICB (with distinctions ) & just working on electronic (using the Sage Instant accounts supplied with Ideal schools package). However I know that this will not be appropriate for use when I start up in business.
Which software packages do other bookkeepers use? I'm looking for something that I can use multiple business's, but relatively cheap? I have used TAS Basics & Sage and I'm quite good with computer systems, but there is soo much choice and its such a hugh cost when I havent got any clients yet!
my vote is for VT Accounts although you only actually need VT Transaction+ (which comes with VT Accounts).
For Payroll I would say 12 pay. origionally I had intended to buy this myself but at the moment I don't offer payroll services as there just isn't enough return to justify the risk / return ratio.
A great little discussion related to this was in the Convince me that I don't need sage thread. Well worth a read if you haven't read that one already.

It's a pity the site doesn't have the ability to "sticky" certain threads, that link Shaun is a "classic" pointer for people considering software options.
