I have a new client who was using a very old version of sage think its version 8!! I have tried to upload the backup into my latest version of sage line 50 but it wont let me do this saying version older than 11 can not be converted.
Has anyone come across this before? If so how did you get around this? The only other option I can think off is to enter every transaction again from the start of year. Any advice appreciated
HI, I have come across issues moving data within Sage based on the age of the programme. If memory serves Sage themselves offer the option to convert the data and return it to you however, and dont quote me on this but, i think that the cost may be around a couple of hundred pounds
One way would be to do a two-step conversion, i.e. use an older version (say version 12) of Sage to convert the back-up and then use your current Sage to convert that back-up. Of course, this relies on you having access to an older version of Sage.
I guess you should also check that the client is happy for you to convert their data as they'll have to pay for a new version of Sage should they wish to independently access it in the future.

Version 8 ?? Omg it really is about time they upgraded ! You can't go from version 8 to a current version without doing an interim upgrade, probably to version 12 but I'd speak to sage first just to check. You cant go back once you have gone upwards either. Version 8 really is very very old. They'd find a new version so much better
it will convert using above - step by step upgrades - if you dont have multi versions I will be happy to do for a time fee as I have back to 2009. Just to make sure - are you working on to pass back to version 2008 - they wont be able to read this. They will need to upgrade but unfortunately outside of the upgrade rate as so old so will be buying from new - ok if only instant as around £85 pounds. Please email if I can help on either a quotation or uploading. info@completebookkeeping.co.uk good luck
