Who regulates content on websites?
Permalink Closed

Evening all,

I've had a client moaning on the phone to me that I don't list all my limited company details on my website. I'll of course get this added but it got me thinking as to who regulates this content.

The clients a funny one, so I'm not concerned myself, but who would I complain to for example if Amazon.co.uk didn't correcly display it's company regitration number, VAT registration number etc. Surely not Companies House or HMRC (god forbid!)?

Hi Stuart,

Complaints would be registered with either companies house or local trading standards officers (not HMRC).

If upheld the base fine is £1000 for day 1 then £100 for each consecutive day that the details are not available on the site.

Note that although the details must be on the website they do not need to be on every page.

They must be clearly readable where they are located and the location must be accessible...

Now go try and find the details on many sites. They are generally there, and they are legal but your will need to scroll way down on a page that is seldom visited to find the details.

Shaun.

Would you also need to make sure you have certain details on your emails if you are sending them as the Ltd Co ?

I understand that a corporate company, has some quite definite wording that has to be placed in the email signature

A good checklist can be found here
