I have used Team Viewer a few times in the past few months to access clients data if I am unable to meet at their premise.
What I am worried about is that I have been using the non-business version as it's free and wondered if there was another free verison (another software) for business as I don't need it very often any paying for the full business version would not be cost effective.
Any alternative, preferably free and for business use ideas would be great.

I was bounced out of LogMeIn earlier this year when they introduced charging for all - understand there is no free option anymore, unless they have bowed to pressure.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
All of these services* will be using either VNC or RDP, all niced up in a friendly website. IIRC, RDP is of Microsoft's own heritage, and performs a largely similar task to VNC - so these websites will probably be using be VNC-based software).
So an alternative might be just to look for suitable VNC software - a server to run on the remote machine, and a client to run on the local one. A quick search finds this one, for example: www.tightvnc.com/
The only slight problem is that I suspect it'll probably be a little more fiddly to set up - especially getting the person at the other end of the phone to set it up correctly so you can view their desktop.
* I thought Google Hangouts was a messaging system - so either Ian's misunderstood this thread, or I've misunderstood Hangouts. (The latter is definitely possible, because I don't use very many of the services provided by Google - and those I do, it's reluctantly!)

I was completely unaware of Google Hangouts until a client asked me to join him in a session one day. He shared his screen with me as we discussed a particular development I was assisting with. It seemed very similar to join.me so far as the limited functionality we used on that occasion was concerned. I offered it with a question mark because I'm not that familiar with the features. It might be suitable for some in some circumstances.
Regards,
P.S. I just checked and it does do Remote Desktop Control. This gives you the option to take control of someone's computer (with their permission, of course) during a video call.
