Help needed please. Firstly I have choice out of sage or free agent, which one to use? Secondly, how do I put my sales in for the day, for example I will be using epos system, which invoices my account customer and records all the days sales. It can tell me all outstanding invoices and print statements. When a payment comes in for the invoice, you go into back office to tell the system it has been paid.that's when payment comes in. My question is how do I report daily sales report in one of the software account packages? For example the end of day z report = total for day 700., £500 through the door and £200 on account for business customers. Also let's say £400 on debit card,£100 cash and the 200 on account. How do I record this in account package? Help would be very great full Thanks for your time In process of starting new retail shop and confused.com..lol Thank you for your time

Hi Rich,

welcome to the forum.

I'm not much use to you as I have no retail clients and my practice doesn't use Sage.

However, quick question. Why is your choice between Sage and Free Agent? Is there some product integration between those and your Epos system?

Also, shouldn't it be your Epos system that is giving you the breakdown for you to enter into any accounting package rather than restricting yourself to those two?

You'll get much better answers than mine, probably Monday when most of the workday regulars log in. My input though is just the above question rathert than anything constructive towards and answer.

kind regards,

Shaun.

p.s. good luck with the new enterprise.

Thank you for your reply Shaun
Epos software is really good but does not work with any account packages, it just a great tool for stock valuation and the day to day running of the business.
When I open Barclays business account,I will get two years free banking if I take out sage, free agent and a choice I think of another accounting package.
the epso give me break down of each day of what I did for the day on accounts, cash, debit card.

I just confused how I out this into an account package.

Thankss and hope the enterprise goes well.

Richard

Cheers Richard,

Just so that people know how to help when they log in, which EPOS system is it that you are / will be using?

And did they say which Sage? (I assume either Instant or Sage One).

Don't let the bank force on you anything that you don't want. Just because they demand that you take Sage software in exchange for free banking doesn't mean that you have to use it!

However, there are a lot of training materials available for Sage which does mean that you don't need to be a trained bookkeeper or accountant to use it... Hypathetically... Backing out of some mistakes can be an absolute nightmare with that software.

Have you got an accountant on board yet? If so you will save a lot more than two years bank charges by having your software integrate with theirs (which is likely to be Sage anyway but worth checking what your accountant would prefer).

From the daily reports you have all of the data that you need for yourself or a qualified bookkeeper to enter the data into a relevant accounts package on a daily, weekly, monthly basis (dependant upon the size of your business and the compexity of the breakdown).

My approach, would be to set up each payment receipt method within the accounts package as a seperate bank account.

As I say though, others who have retail clients with EPOS systems will be along imminently to give better answers than mine,

kind regards,

Shaun.
