What is it with the Dallas avatars?

Some kind of original default setup?

In in-joke amongst the established members?

And why no Pammy and Sue-Ellen?

Dallas wasn't the first, there were others. Some members changed their avatars to TV programmes a while back, then it all kind of stopped. I never really got involved with it. I think it all came from some topic that as normal went way off topic.

It started off with only fools and horses, Rob was Rodney and I think Shaun was Delboy?

Then I can't remember what was next, then cartoon charactors, I was Betty Boop, then back to Dallas. There was a Sue Ellen, but she hasn't been on here for a long time. I use to have a different Lucy picture up which I think Shaun quite liked! Now I am still Lucy but a different picture.

Hi Tom,

the established site members were always prone to a laugh and a joke especially in the days of the three Amigos (Bill (wella), Rob (Robh) and myself). For a while the three of us answered almost every query on the site, generally with all of us debating in the same thread.

I think that is when the site really started to change with lots of new faces coming on board on the backs of site debates coming up regularly in peoples internet searches.

The three of us adopted similar avatars denoting a theme and many other site members joined in.

Themes have included Only fools and horses, Cartoon Characters and Dallas.

The Dallas theme started when I changed my Avatar to JR after a chat about my past working in Texas. It was only intended as a short term joke but it was one of those that spread quickly and stuck... I think that Amanda's original poison dwarf pic really helped that!

I'm pretty sure that there was a Pam Ewing for a while but not sure if that one's been changed or the poster just hasn't posted in a long while.

There was definitely a Sue Ellen.

I think that the underlying friendly sense of humour of this site is what separates us from others out there and keeps members coming back to it.

Shaun.

Morning Amanda,

Yes I was Delboy.

I remember how that one started. It was actually someone referring to the Amigo's as like calling in Batman... So I took the OF&H Delboy as Batman, Rob was the Boy Wonder and then Bill went with Grandad.

I know, and I'm back on again...

Was pulled back on by the VAT question about the three years prior to registration but was beaten to the post and I agreed with the answer given so I didn't post my reply.

Bet I could add another thousand posts if I included those that never got as far as the submit button.

There's got to be a couple of thousand of those floating around in the nothingness.
