Need help on loading Quickbooks on my new laptop!
Permalink Closed

HI Everyone,

I have a new laptop and I have loaded QB Accountants 2013 on it no probs, but I also need Pro 2008 on it.  I have installed it but it doesn't seem to work and when you go into a customer you have to restore it as it can't find the file.  Is it compatible with Windows 7????

I have 2 clients who I can't change to 2013 as the accountants only have 2008 and they haven't got the latest one.

I have right clicked and done properties and opt the compatibility into XP but still no joy with it.  Any one any ideas????

I have still got the programme on my old laptop but wanted to put that one in for repair and I have to do a VAT return/bookkeeping on it for one client this month who has only just given me his work, so was hoping to tranfer everything to new laptop!  Had a frustrating day trying to sort this out and have achieved nothing!

Many thanks to anyone who can help me please.

On the compatibility screen did have you also clicked the "Run as Administrator" box? If not try that as well as running in XP compatible mode.

kind regards,

Shaun.

HI Shaun,

Thanks for coming back so quickly, I had already tried that with no luck, I have just put it as vista and tick the admin box and that doesn't work either.  The funny thing is though it will let me open a sample file so it must be there somewhere.  Maybe I might try and reload the files that I need and rename them, and then the rest I will convert over to 2013 model.  God I could really do without this at the mo!  Computers aren't my strong point!

cheers,

Hi Amanda,

I think we might be able to help. Did you purchase the QuickBooks 2013 in the past 30 days? If so, then the Intuit care team can help you free of charge to get it up and running. To contact them you can call 0808 168 9533 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday.

Alternatively if you are not eligible for the free support then let me know and I can try to make some other suggestions to help.

Rupert

Hi Amanda,

I have just spoken to the care team and if it would be easier then you can email me your contact details (rupert_laing@intuit.com) and I will ask one of them to give you a call.

Kind regards,

Rupert

Hi Rupert, I have loaded QB 2013 fine and thats working ok. Its Pro2008 that won't load properly and I need that as I have 2 clients on there that I can't transfer to 2013 version as the accountant doesn't want to upgrade their QB and they still use 2008.

Any suggestions as its driving me mad and means that my old laptop which is needing desperately to go for repair can't until I have finished a clients quarterly books and finished his VAT return! I on'y got the paperwork yesterday but my old laptop nearly died a deaf this morning so its essential I get Pro2008 on my new one. Anymore suggestions are always welcome. I have just joined the PRO advisor programme and my 2013 I have only just got 2 weeks ago.

Many thanks

Hi Amanda,

I'm afraid the only solution I have is a bit technical. You could use something like virtual box to setup a virtual computer within your laptop running windows xp and install QuickBooks 2008 on there.

Other than that, I dont know what to suggest, hope you get it sorted.

Hi Amanda

Just a few thoughts on your problem.

Did you save the 2008 version to a different file location? If not it might be worth trying. Most programmes default to a particular folder when installing but give you an opportunity to save elsewhere. If 2013 and 2008 are in the same location it might cause a conflict

Hi Bill,

Yes I have chosen a different path for it but still no joy. God I hate technical stuff sometimes!

@Kris, how do you set up a virtual pc so it can go to XP or vista?

Hi Amanda

Is it possible that the customers files are in a different location than normal. If 2008 is in a new location perhaps it is "looking" for the data in the old location

If your new software is an accountant edition, can you not do what you have to do using 2013, and sync with the clients version?

I have only just started having a tinker with the 2012 accountant version which does allow some synchronising but I do not know enough about QB to know for sure

Bill

Hi Bill and everyone else,

I have rang QB and surprisingly they were really helpful and have solved my problem! YOu are right Bill the location was wrong of the back up file I was trying to locate of the memory stick where as actually if I copied it to the Desktop and created a QB folder I could point it in that direction and hey presto it works. I even closed down th programme and re-opened it and it all worked fine. Thank god thats sorted now.

Many thanks everyone has its advantages being a Pro advisor I can ring the help line now!

cheers,

Many thanks Rupert, I rang the help line and the guy sorted me out, straight forward really but I am no techy person!

I was trying to do it all of yesterday so really I should have just phoned the help line in the first place.

Many thanks,
