HI - wondered if I can get some advice.

 

If a person has 2 jobs, they use their normal tax code in one and are on a BR code for the other - so far, so good!


So what happens if they leave the job which uses their 810L tax code ? They get a P45, if they give it to the

other employer can they use it, put the year to date figures in and use the 810L tax code ? or do they have to wait

to get a Notce of Coding from HMRC ?

Hi the other employer shouldnt really do anything untill HMRC inform them. The employee could change their tax code with the tax office before they change jobs to speed it up.

In my experience it doesnt take long. Under the new all singing all dancing perfect RTI systemt this should be realy quick.

I'm thinking complete another P46 stating it's their only job - to put them on Emergency Week 1 code.

I had this happen at a client of mine. The employee was deducted BR tax in my client's employment and 810L in the employment she left. The employee contacted HMRC herself and my client received a notice of coding from them really quickly.
