Hi,

currently doing a computerised payroll course.

when entering payments I have noticed that the SSP and SMP are added to the salary in the payment summary. 

eg weekly pay is £300

Employee is absent all week with sickness. I enter the absence in the Diary Entry. Employee should therefore receive SSP of £34.34 per week only.

However, the payment summary keeps coming up with £300+ £34.34 = £334.34.

Is there a way of ensuring that just the SSP or SMP is paid? I have had to manually remove the monthly salary. My course guide useless.

Oh, and what exactly does "make up to basic" do? That did not correct the problem.

Hi there,

I think you will have to manually remove the normal weekly/monthly salary first. If you don't do this Sage payroll assumes that you are paying the normal salary plus SSP or SMP.

With regards to "Make up to basic", some employers will pay SSP or SMP but make up the pay to the normal basic pay so that the employee gets their normal pay. Most small employers will be able to reclaim the SSP and SMP.
