My take on that is that HMRC are now going after people who have not done anything wrong per the current tax laws.
Does this mean that HMRC now see themselves above the regulations that they represent.
Whilst the schemes may represent only a tiny fraction of the taxpayers out there the principle of the disregard for the regulations reminds me of the captain Barbossa comment in relation to the pirates code " the code is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules".

One of the truly great films of all time and may even surpass both Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the Original Star wars movie as quote fodder.
Favorite exchange in Pirates of the caribean has to be during the fight between Jack Sparrow and Will Turner
Will : "You cheated". Jack : "Pirate".
Sure that I'll eventually get chance to recycle that as
HMRC "Your not paying enough Tax" Me "Accountant"

This made my head spin and had me laughing for ages
Jack Sparrow: Me? Im dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. Its the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when theyre going to do something incredibly stupid.
