Agents tend to rewrite your CV's anyway (normally to worse than when you started).
CV writing companies do not understand your CV and just tidy up what is there anyway.
If you want a CV that looks like everyone elses just find a template on the web and make yours in that format.
If you want me to review your CV pm it over and I'll give it the once over this weekend... Be warned though, my eldest boy ended up in tears when I had finished ripping stuff out of his... But then he's now a bank manager on the back of that so he can't complain too much.

I had a 15 minute chat with a 'consultant' (although I was told initailly it would be a 45min interveiw). Felt a bit deflated afterwards as it wasn't as long as i had hoped.
Got 'new' CV a few days later with a cover letter, and quite frankly for a 'professional' in her trade, her formatting of the CV was appalling... had to go through the WHOLE thing again and reformat and take out things thats she put in that either i didn't do or had very little knowledge on...
Sucessfullness of CV so far... (after 2 years) 2 job interviews.... no job!!!! :/
On the whole DON'T waste your money... get friends and family to read it... someone who has an english degree... anyone whos literate... but not a CV writer!!! :(
I think that Literate and professional CV writer are mutually exclusive terms.

I think you're doing the right thing by getting the letters and a bright future beckons. It's got to open a few more doors a bit wider. Build it, they will come and aren't you doing the books for a local group now, so there's solid experience.
