Hiya gang,

Just wondered if anyone had used any of the CV wrting companies and what the experience

and outcome was like. Are they worth the money? is it worth trying one of these companies?

Interested to know,

Neil.

Just going for my shortest ever reply there.

The answer is generally a no.

Agents tend to rewrite your CV's anyway (normally to worse than when you started).

CV writing companies do not understand your CV and just tidy up what is there anyway.

If you want a CV that looks like everyone elses just find a template on the web and make yours in that format.

If you want me to review your CV pm it over and I'll give it the once over this weekend... Be warned though, my eldest boy ended up in tears when I had finished ripping stuff out of his... But then he's now a bank manager on the back of that so he can't complain too much.

I don't want to be a bank manager lol.

Thanks for the kind offer. I will take you up on that.

I was actually going to post that i thought that there was an exceedingly long post somewhere in your mind

until you realised that the answers could be summed up in one word lol, i think i'm getting to know you quite

well. I thought using such a company would be a bit of a cop out and your CV would lose the personal touch.

I did meet a lady while in college (and we have remained friends), who did have her CV professionally written

and although not entirely over the moon with it, she said that for 30 quid it did give her a miles better

understanding of what and how to write. Just curious.

I spent £250 on one.... WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I had a 15 minute chat with a 'consultant' (although I was told initailly it would be a 45min interveiw). Felt a bit deflated afterwards as it wasn't as long as i had hoped.

Got 'new' CV a few days later with a cover letter, and quite frankly for a 'professional' in her trade, her formatting of the CV was appalling... had to go through the WHOLE thing again and reformat and take out things thats she put in that either i didn't do or had very little knowledge on...

Sucessfullness of CV so far... (after 2 years) 2 job interviews.... no job!!!! :/

On the whole DON'T waste your money... get friends and family to read it... someone who has an english degree... anyone whos literate... but not a CV writer!!! :(

I think that Literate and professional CV writer are mutually exclusive terms.

Damn, that's a chunk of money.

Thanks for that though Gary.

I think i'm in the wobbly position of being inexperienced (unexperienced) yet well qualified to

do the jobs i'm applying for. Me and another 3 million people.

Cheers,

Neil.

I wrote myself a CV once, about a million years ago, give or take a few thousand.

I don't think I ever used it, though.

Just been provisionally approved for full member status upon completion (1 more exam) of AAT.

This beats passing any exam for me.

I know in other posts i said i was considering dropping out of AAT after completion as i intend to

move on to (grown up) further studies but my AAT membership doesn't lapse til June so i thought

'why not' gain the letters for a while.

It may be a CV booster, i'm not holding my breath though.

I think you're doing the right thing by getting the letters and a bright future beckons. It's got to open a few more doors a bit wider. Build it, they will come and aren't you doing the books for a local group now, so there's solid experience.
