Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd let you all know that I have just got my insurance through this site and saved a fortune!

Finally joined the membership for BKN £24 and then insurance was £78 for the year.

My old insurance company wanted £215!!!  Just phoned them and told them I have it cheaper!

I am on an economy drive this year to see how much I can save on things.  Gas and Electric next one to change and save money.

What are your saving tips for this year anyone?

We're going for the rooftop solar panels.

My Mother-in-law had them installed a few months back and saves around £100 per quarter.

I was a bit dubious at first, but they are offered to house owners for free at the moment and as they will

be fitted to the rear of my house i'm going for it. We also took out direct debit duel fuel with a new provider and slashed the cost of

broadband (with the same provider) last year, saving nearly £200 p/y. You have definitely got to keep on top

of your suppliers and have no problems with changing suppliers if you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

before last year i did fall into the bracket of being comfy with what we paid for services. I think maybe this

studying has taught me a lot more about life in general than just accounts preparation.

I also saved £180 on home and contents insurance last year, this was as well as taking an extra emergency breakdown

policy too!.

I'm going into stealing Rooftop solar panels.... Already have a few addresses to visit around the Manchester area.

lol.

We had our water changed over to a meter and it saved us a fortune. God knows how. we have baths not showers and don't try to save water but converting knocked a couple of hundred pounds a year off our water bill.

I've found that divorce can save you a fortune in credit card statements full of receipts from shoe shops. (I'm a bloke. If at any time I hav two pairs of shoes there is something wrong).

More seriously though, good call on the insurance Amanda. Under the hood it's actually through Zurich so sound PII from a quality insurer.

all the best,

Shaun.

Wow they are good savings Neil.

We swapped home insurance 2 years ago and saved a fortune, hubby checked it again last year and the no one could beat their premium so we stuck with them. Its car insurance next for me, its due in Feb so I will be scouring the internet again! I normally change it every year, its such a rip off anyway.

We looked at Solar panels, but the roof doesn't lend its self very well to it so we have abandoned it. I have a friend and they are a large family and they don't reckon they have enough panels to have decent supply of hot water, so make sure you get plenty of panels fitted.

My new years resolution is to cut back on bills, so I will be going through my household spreadsheet with a fine tooth comb, and then also I need to loose a stone in weight, so I may join Wieghtwatchers on line!

Shaun, we have just had a water meter fitted, they became compulsory in our area, so when it goes live I am looking forward to saving some money, we normally all have showers, my youngest spends the longest in there so I was going to buy an egg timer to hurry him along! He has no concept of time and is so slow, we only live round the corner from school and he arrives 1 minute before the bell goes.

I must be doing something wrong with the credit card, as I don't go shoe shopping, infact I hate shopping, I get bored and then come on home.
I went 'Sale shopping' the other day after seeing a new client, I lasted 1 hour, got bored didn't see anything I wanted, (was looking for furniture), and then it rained so I came home.

I wouldn't have them fitted if they interfered with the front of the house. You think that someone would come up with

some way of making the panels a bit more 'easy' on the eyes.

It's not water we get through in our house, it's washing machines. I've had everything from baby's socks to the wires from

bras knackering up ours.

Neil,

You need to put the babies socks and bra's in a pillow case in the washing machine, that will save the washing machine getting knackered!

I know what you mean about the Solar panels, they do look ugly on the front of peoples' houses.

Turn off that red light, those days are well and truly over.

I gave up telling everyone to put stuff in the little string bag before putting it in the washer.

I have become a dab hand at removing washing machine pumps though.
