Tax Return - done.

Just did my SA tax return. For the honour of the profession, sort of thing. I thought I should .....

Yep, done mine too... Prompted by Amanda who was making me feel guilty that I always leave mine to the last minute where she got hers done in September (think that she's going for teachers pet with HMRC).

Hi Shaun,

I was forced to do it for a re-mortgage so I had no choice!! Mind you I haven't paid it yet, got a note on the calender in big bold letters to PAY tax. I am going to try and do mine early this year as well. I am nearly up together for mine so I aim to do it in the summer. Mind you I may be on here for some help with 2012/13 as I have bought 2 houses for rental in this financial year, so that will have to be dealt with.

I'm not really teachers pet!!!

I was not good at school, homework done at last minute, didn't like most of the teachers, basically a rubbish school, only just did enough in class, except for Maths and Art they were my favourite subjects, they 2 teachers were really good. Hated English and was terrible at it.

Yer right, think that your protesting too much about not being teachers pet Amanda. lol.

Think that the self assessment after next of mine (tax timing is everything!) is going to get somewhat more complex as I'm looking at holiday rentals in Thailand as my pension pot (paid into two pensions my whole life, also got three occupation pensions, one index linked and I'm still looking at never being able to retire as none of them are worth anything anymore (and there should have been a fourth occupational one but it seemed that one had been used to keep the managements salaries in the upper stratosphere until the business collapsed).

My boy has the same attitude towards school homework, sometimes to extremes such as the project over the Xmas hols that was avoided all mention of until the day before he went back.

My favorites at school were Art and History. I couldn't get my head around languages at all at school but strangely when I've had Russian and Thai girlfriends (no, not mail order varieties) I've really enjoyed picking up new languages!!! Like my maths, always makes more sense when used in a practical context wink

It seems to be the norm that those in the profession are always the last to get their tax returns submitted. I seem to spend all Christmas break sorting out my accounts and I hate it. I think the key is, no one is paying me to do it!

Aah! The liberating wonder of the Interweb

I recall the dark days before all that, in the early 90s, and hot-footing it to the nearest Tax Office 20 miles away where they had opened up specially on a Saturday so laggards like me could hand their returns before the final deadline. I can still remember the relief as the receptionist time-stamped my big buff envelope ...
