A builder has built a disabled toilet for a client.  He hasn't charged the client any vat on the materials or labour but the materials he purchased to do the job have vat added to them.  Can the builder still claim the vat on those materials back through his vat return please?

We did a job for a disabled person who was exempt from paying vat, (he filled out some form or another) yet we still claimed vat on the materials needed to do the job.

Yes, he can claim the VAT on the materials back
