Message for Shaun.....

Hi Shaun.  Hope you're having a good Sunday. I just wanted to see if you could post a reminder about people posting under multiple threads?  Last night I spent a while answering a question for someone who I see has been having the same conversation under a different thread.  And again this morning I have done the same thing with someone different.  Just a bit of a waste of time!

Phew,

when I read the thread title I thought that I was going to be told off abput something.

In the past weeks I've cleaned up over twenty repeated threads. Some were down to the issue that the sites had still working its way out of the system. Others are the same posts under multiple categories where new posters assume that we go into each category and if they don't post i the right one then they will be missed.

Where I sometimes miss them is where the threads are posted with different titles (espechially where they are Sage related as they often get skipped on initial post although I glance at them eventually to check for spam).

As such, I may miss the occassional repeated post so if you come accross any of these please feel free to bring the threads concerned to my attention and I will merge threads where there have been posts on all and delete threads that have as yet had no response.

I could write a sticky telling people not to double post but from my experience many new faces do not read existing post unless guided to the post in a response.

As I say, let me know the sets of posts concerned in this instance and I'll sort them out,

kindest regards,

Shaun.

Lol.....sorry

You've certainly got your work cut out!

The posts in this case are:-  "Wage journals" under General Bookkeeping & Accounting and "Sage - trouble with bank rec" under Professional Bookeepers in Practice (Same post by Ella)  Posted under two really old posts.

The other is:-  "Posting expenses" under General Bookkeeping and "How to post expenses in Sage" under VAT, Payroll & Tax.

Thanks Shaun

Hi Pauline,

sorted out the second one but the first would result in a thread that was too messed up.

The two threads are also current and different enough that it would not be right to close either one of them down.

I've put a note in both threads pointing to the other answer.

I've been deleting a lot of duplicate threads but when people are duplicating questions in old posts that we cannot merge or delete or close then it's a bit of a headache as I don't have the facility to lift, move or merge single posts, only whole threads.

next time I'm talking to Steve I'll mention that a single post cut and shunt facility would be a useful addition to the moderators toolbox.

many thanks for bringing the issue to my attention and although not a perfect resolution in this instance at least it's a bit better than it was,

kind regards,

Shaun.

Hi Pauline,

It's just becoming one! (lol, see the other posts)

The poster where I couldn't merge the threads has gone off on one that I asked them politely not to double post and gave my reasons for it.

Actually, it's no problem at all and anytime you come accross anything like this that I may have missed just let me know and I'll sort it out.

Wonder if the other poster appreciates that she's playing with a loaded gun?

kind regards,

Shaun.

Oh dear Amanda. Stress can cause all sorts of aches and pains. You don't realise just how tense you are until you make a concerted effort to relax.
