I have a new potential hairdressing client and would like to know

- how are the daily takings recorded? should this be done on a individual client sale basis or a daily total basis?

are there any other things that i should bear in mind.

any help / pointers will be greatly appreciated

Ask for the appointments diary each year. That's something HMIT ask for and as with other trades it should give an indication to the veracity of the takings.
Regards,

Tim

Edit: Rushed posting. Slightly re-worded

I think to record individual clients you'd be giving yourself extra work for nothing. I'd record daily totals with one exception, if your client wants to see spends by client.

Ask the client whether all of the chairs in the salon are theirs.

Its quite common for owners to sub let chairs in a salon.

If they do use this method then the National Hairdressers Association have contracts that have been verified by HMRC that they might want to use.

Sure that there have been posts on here about chair rentals... Hang on a sec...

yep, here you go. There are others but these two should suffice for starters. Second one has a good snippet in relation to VAT and exempt sales.
