Permalink Closed

Hi,

I have a question on behalf of my friend. He is AAT student and is just wondering when is it that he could set up his book-keeping business. What level must be complited and what he can actually do as a book-keeper?

Thank you for all answers

Shelly

AAT, correct me if im wrong fraternity, will have to be level 4 to get a practining certificate.

To do it non AAT then he would have to look at the IAB/ICB.

isn't AAT a little more lenient about this than the higher bodies. You cannot get a practicing certificate but you can practice as though you had no qualification.

From the AAT site :

While you are studying for your AAT qualification, you can set up in practice.
However, certain restrictions apply until you become a full member:

You may not advertise in connection with the AAT.
You must only undertake work within your competence and seek professional advice where necessary.
You must abide by the our Guidelines on Professional Ethics.
You are strongly advised to take out professional indemnity insurance.

Of course, you are also going to need to get MLR cover through HMRC.

Although it only mentions above "must not advertise" that's actually implying "must not mention anywhere or give anyone the impression that one has any affiliation with the AAT".

Hope that helps,

kind regards,

Shaun.

This ^

But i would strongly advise following these rules as AAT are just like the Chartered bodies when it comes to removing ones status and membership, be it student or full member.

A little more lenient than REGULATION 8 though eh shaun?

The monthly AAT mag has a couple of columns per month filled with 'The Naughties' makes me giggle, some of the things students try and get away with.

Why anyone would want to cheat an exam in their chosen profession is completely beyond me. Still, without these dudes i wouldn't get my monthly laugh.
