Is it possible to operate RTI payroll without being authorised as an agent?
I may be about to do some sub-contract payroll for an accountant who will be the client's Agent for PAYE. Is it possible for me to file under RTI without being authorised as an Agent. Any correspondance with HMRC would be with the Accountant.
Is it possible and if so what do I need to do?

I would think that you can do a "filing only" service through the clients gateway login, setting the software up with the client details/ password etc.
On some services you could submit a "filing only" service through your own gateway but not sure if that will be the case with RTI payroll.
Sounds like positive news from the accountant meeting Peasie.
Well done matey,
all the best,
Shaun.

Any gateway login which is registered for PAYE Online for any PAYE Scheme can file RTI using 3rd party software for all PAYE schemes, as long as you know both the PAYE reference and the Accounts Office reference of the scheme.
As for meeting the accountant - he wants me to do the wages for one local company, subject to them approving. One downside is he is probably going to get the software himself. The person that currently does the payroll for his clients is 70 years old. He's thinking about it over the weekend. He says he'll pay me to show him through it if he installs it. It's almost like I talked myself out of a job. Only I could do that.
He has mentioned another company that is expanding and he wants to talk them into doing the bookkeeping more regularly (rather than just a pile of receipts being handed over every three months for the VAT). He talked about in future the possibility of me coming in for maybe 5 hours per week.
I hope next weeks turns out to be more positive than last week. And regarding the fine I got last week for failing to display my task disk on my car - I'm lucky I never got another one. When I put it in the disc holder I accidentally put it behind the expired one (I keep all the earlier ones in the holder). It was only when my brother said to me last night I noticed. I thought he was winding me up knowing about my earlier ticket.
