Mileage expenses
Permalink Closed

Hi all,

I posted this under another thread, but thought it best to start a new one.....follows on about a query regarding claiming mileage expenses if you work at a client's premises on a regular basis.

I work at one client's three times a week for 4hrs each time and another twice a week for 4hrs a time and then I work at home the rest of the time for a firm of accountants. I am already a bit worried that this could be classed as employment rather than self-employment as I use their computers and software at both places, but everything else I use is mine. The main client is moving soon to premises further away, so I am dropping one morning that I do there as he is employing someone to do the administration work that I have ended up doing as well as the bookkeeping! I will then be working at the accountant's premises for one morning as well as at home. Should I be claiming mileage or not? (I have been working for the two main clients for 3 years, I'm not a Ltd company).

I'm in a similar boat Pauline, I work in an office off site one day a week, but as far as im concerned, he's a client who gets billed by me, and the travel expense is claimed as my 'office' is my spare room. It would be no different if I had office's else where... (except i wouldn't claim for travelling to the office but i would travelling to his)

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that....also, if we self-employed can't claim for our travelling expenses, what can we claim for?

In this scenario, I think that it will be alright to claim the travel costs.

It would be different if you travelled to another office to do your work not the clients!
