Was a previous member back in 2008 when i had recently become an associate member of the I.C.B but then for family reasons did not pursue my new career choice and i can't remember my log in details or even what email i had back in those days so have created a new profile.
Anyway back again and hoping to get re-qualified with I.C.B in order to offer bookkeeping and accounting services to sole traders. Did an H.N.D in Business & Finance many years ago and even started my working life as a trainee accountant doing CIMA but quit to join the family business in the retail sector.
I have had a fair few years experinece of bookkeeping in keeping my own books for family business for over 14 years and then for various businesses since, was a mortgage advisor too for a brief time but was scuppered by the credit crunch and for the last couple of years decided on a life style business to fit around my family and started a carpet and upholstery cleaning business but do not see me doing this for the rest of my working life, I turn 46 next month and really don't want to be doing carpet cleaning in my 50's and 60's. Now have decided to get back into bookkeeping etc and initially build up a small part-time business to fill in the quite times of my existing business which leaves me plenty of spare time but in time hope to build it up into a full-time business and sell my other business.

... As if you need to talk about bookkeeping and such to hang around her, lol.
Well, of the people that you will have spoken to on the site back then I think only Amanda is still an active member.
There are now as many accountants and those studying towards accountancy qualifications on the site as there are bookkeepers which I feel is a general reflection of the service that clients require of us which tend to be cheaper accountants rather than pure bookkeeping roles.
The credit crunch saw a lot of people going down this path although how many of them stuck at it is another matter.
I started before the crunch but I can't say that I didn't see it coming (not that anyone ever listened to me!).
46 is a good age for this. Not so young that clients do not take you seriously and not so old that clients do not take you seriously.
Looking forwards to chatting and talk soon,
all the best,
Shaun.

But I know that you had only just left school when you first joined the site Amanda.
(Phew, think that I made a good recovery there).
