Working tax credit and self employment

I have a client who is self employed and last year earnt below the threshold. He has asked that if he moved in with his girlfriend, who is on income support, would they be able to claim working tax credit?

To be able to claim income support, the girlfriend must working less than 16 hours a week. If the boyfriend moves in with the girlfriend and he works 24 hours a week or less then the girlfriend cannot claim income support anymore!

However, that will not stop the boyfriend claiming Working Tax Credit.

Make sure the couple notify the proper authorities if the boyfriend moved inwith his girlfriend.
