PLease help - filing a P45 for someone who left before 5th April
Permalink Closed

The option to do this online has now been removed so do we have to add the person into Sage (we began using Sage on 8th April).  If so do we include them in our first EAS (which it appears Sage is making us file despite having only around 20 employees before submitting our first FPS) or do we do the P45 before the first EAS/FSP.

We really are working blind here.  We are used to nice manual wage cards and NI/tax tables not computers.

Hi there,

I would say definitely submit a P45 before sending the EAS/FSP if the employee left before 5th April. They shouldn't be added to Sage for this year as they no longer work for the company.

We have no way of submitting the P45 and we don't even have any paper copies as last time I asked for paper copies of a firm HMRC wouldn't send them saying do it online. In the end we submitted our EAS (not that it went through) and are hoping the ex employee gets sent a P45 somehow.

Ah right, I see that the option to file P45s online has been removed...sorry. What did you use before you started using Sage?

We have never operated computerised payroll before. We submitted P45s and P11Ds using the gateway and manual wage cards

I would phone HMRC and ask what to do in this situation then. Although as you have sent an EAS it may get picked up that she left anyway, but the employee will need a P45.

Exactly. It's not been thought through properly. The ex employee is not going to be looking for another job yet as they took voluntary redundancy because of ill health but they'll still need the P45 for the benefits agency I guess.
