I've not settled on exactly how much yet but I do think there are grounds for increasing fees.
I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to educate them - I finally got one to stop his 'Net to Gross' procedure after badgering him for years - I've dropped a charity one after wrestling with my conscience - I've at last got them all on emailed payslips after failing about 8 years ago.
I may provide them with a periodic folder showing a payroll summary and HMRC filing receipt - people like to see what they're paying for.
Tim
Also, I haven't been welcoming Payroll client's for several years but I feel in a position to do some marketing..... possibly after this coming October!

Has anyone put their fees up for Payroll since RTI or have you actually calculated them differently? Just wonderng what peoples' views are on this now we have a month under our belts. Has it taken longer than expected especially checking hours worked or correct addresses etc?
Interested what people's thoughts are on this subject.
In regarding checking the hours, what I mean is if you have weekly/monthly employees that are paid differently each month according to the hours that are worked, it doesn't necessary affect the software that you are using regarding RTI, but it does mean chasing the employer to check if anyone's hours are different from the previous month/week. This would happen a lot with pubs etc.
I agree Tim that an increase in fees may well have to be implemented at some time.
No other costs other than those said so no set up fee or additional costs for starters/leavers.
Before RTI was paying
£80 per year for 1 monthly employee and £30 per year for each additional monthly employee.
£125 per year for 1 weekly employee and £75 per year for each additional weekly employee.
So £40 more for monthly and £235 more for weekly.
Basically being charge £5 per RTI submission and £2.50 per monthly payslip and £1.50 per weekly payslip with the difference being an annual charge. So clients now better off making sure all staff are paid monthly rather than weekly to keep costs down.
I've kept my fees as they were. Payroll isn't taking me any longer, neither is it any more complex to run. Given the saving of time and effort at the year end I think it will be a bit better in the long run. I've not experienced any major issues with it either. I think Jay is right with this one, it's about training the clients and dumping those who cant be trained.
Ive kept my fees the same - as I have always charged a set monthly fee and always felt a bit hard done by at payroll year end- due to spending alot more hours over the year end. RTI hasnt really added too much extra time to my monthly pay runs because my software has handled it so well (moneysoft.com) and now I wont have to spend so many hours reconcilling year ends and submitting end of year returns - I feel everyones a winner !
and I also got shot of 2 customers that didnt 'play ball' over the RTI set up period, and I also gained a few new ones too.
How many others on here are charging an extra amount for RTI filing each month? I was thinking about doing it like Mark has and Cheshire, as you have to check its all correct, print off the emails confirming it all etc, and at the end of the day it all takes up time.
I must be doing something wrong. My process is, and always has been that my clients send me an email with employees hours and rate (if it's changing) and I process the payroll and send them the payslip. The only extra thing I do now is click the "Process RTI" button and file the email I get to say it's done.
No you are not doing anything wrong, on 12 Pay I always do a reconcile button so it compare the previous weeks pay, then before pressing the RTI button it gives you an option of printing what is going to be submitted so I print/save it for my records, and then press the RTI button. I just like to be extra careful when its a payroll that can change on a regular basis. That's my take on it anyway maybe I'm over careful! Then I save/print the email confirming that's its been accepted.
If they are monthly directors then they don't take up hardly anythime if they pay the same every month.
Ah right, I don't have all they buttons on my software. You had me running off checking Amanda. If I wasn't up against the deadline for a self assessment I'd have been even more worried.
Its probably me just being over careful to be honest. The one off Directors are easy to do but when you have Payroll where the amounts can differ that's when I have to do lots of checking etc.
