New employee RTI error message: invalid NI table letter used
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone,

I have a new payroll client who I am just running the first month's payroll for and they have taken on a new employee. I have double checked the details I am entering but the FPS keeps failing because of the above error message - The new Employee name :invalid NI table letter used.

My payroll software is moneysoft.

What I have noticed is that the leaving date on the p45 is 11/6/13 but the employees start date in this employment is 6/6/13 so there is an overlap of 2 employments for 6 days. Would this have anything to do with it?

Many thanks for reading.

Cassie

Hi Cassie,

What is the NI Table letter used in the second column of the Pay Details screen and does this conflict with date of birth for instance?

Kind regards,
Tim

Some NI Table letters are only applicable to females.
C is only applicable to people of pensionable age
Some table letters are only applicable to employees with superannuation schemes, in which case a SCON needs to be entered.

Check that their birth date doesn't indicate that C would be correct, is the only thing that I can think of in that situation.

A Moneysoft expert might have more explanations.

Thank you Tom, they are 28 so should be A. I am going to contact Moneysoft to see if they can help.

I spoke to moneysoft and it is sorted. It was because it was a mid year start, I had to go to tools, mid year start and found that the boxes for tax tode and NI letter were blank so had to put them in here! I have never had to do this before, I usually just enter this under new employee information without any problems.

Phew, off on my holidays tonight so glad that it is sorted! Thanks again :)
