Sage 16-bit Dos package on Windows 7?
Permalink Closed

Hi,

My client has a very old Sage 50 16-bit Dos package for the account. Its old but works fine but the laptop it is on is old and won't link to anything else other than Sage.

I am trying to get it to run on a Windows 7 Professional laptop but as it is 16 bits wont work on the XP virtual option as that only has 32 or 64 bit options. Looking on google there seems to be an option to download DOSBOX which will hopefully sort things out. Before I have a go at doing that, could anyone let me know if they are running through this before I ruin my laptop completely!

Or do you have another option I could try without them having to buy a newer model of sage.

Many thanks

Hi Nicola,

have you tried right clicking the icon, going to properties, go to compatibility tab, use Win 95 compatability mode.

Also tick all of the settings to make it as basic as it will go and also run as administrator.

As far back as Windows ME I successfully ran some very old programs including a primordial version of Sage (and probably where my possible now outdated dislike of the product originated from).

It may not work but worth a try before going on to trying emulators which are still not guaranteed to work.

kind regards,

Shaun.

p.s. we do have a couple of PC wizards on here (Vince and Kris) who may be able to help further when they spot your message.

Thanks Shaun

I think I tried the 95 compatibility mode but had the message -  16 bit can't run on 32 or 64 bit - when i was in the XP vitual screen. But will double check when I am back in the office

Thank once again

Nicola
