I have used the HMRC RTI Basic Tools, which do the job perfectly well, EXCEPT, it doesn't create payslips,
which, given that it's a legal requirement to provide them, seems ridiculous to me!
Because of this shortcoming, my favourite is www.payroo.com, which I find very easy to use, and it's free!
I see that there is support with Moneysoft....which I have a feeling will be needed!...so that would probably be the preferred option for now. This company has been paying employees for a few weeks (the business was started in a bit of a hurry) so the sooner the better!!
I agree - Moneysoft. Ive started using it May and the backup is great (not open at weekends though!), although a good base knowledge of payroll is a must. Another one recommended on here to me was 12Pay.
I offer payroll services and one thing to consider if perhaps setting up a buddy system with someone who uses the same software, so that you always have cover when you are away, so you dont fall foul of RTI (and especially if the company doesnt have a good base knowledge of payroll - so they dont mess it up)

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Joanne - yes, it opens up a payslip, with the company menu at the top and the employees at the side.
The only thing I would say against it, is that it goes out to XPS viewer, and that shows all payslips for that month, for that company. I don't like sending clients this, so I print sceen each slip into word and save it as a PDF... I don't have that much payroll as you know, so its not too much of a bother to me.
The guy who runs the software (Anthony) is very helpful though. I may ask him if he has plans to export direct to PDF soon.
