Can Sage import bank info? I use Sage 50 client manager. Most of my clients have Sage Instant. I am seeing Xero and FreeAgent do it, and wondered whether Sage does?
Hi Michelle
Nope, not at this stage. I think they are planning on developing their own bank links rather than using 3rd party collaborations which I think xero and kashflow do.
Would be a neat thing to do as these automatic bank feeds are converting a lot of the smaller businesses to the online providers...

Jeremy has probably answered your question already. However, if you are also asking whether it can be done manually, for any bank, the answer is most likely yes.
This link lists the banks that provide statement files that can be manually imported into the various Sage products. If you have access to such statement files from your bank, you'll just need to follow the Sage instructions to set up the e-Reconcile capability. Unfortunately, some (most?) of the banks charge (a lot) extra for making the compatible files available to the account holder.
What if your bank isn't listed or the statement files cost too much? Fortunately, if it is possible for you to construct a CSV file containing statement date, reference and amount from your basic electronic banking screens, it should be possible to use this information to mock up a statement file for one of the banks on the Sage list and to use that for e-Reconcile. I use Northern/Danske Bank as the bank type for Electronic Banking for all Sage Instant bank accounts and have constructed an Excel VBA macro to change any transaction CSV files into the format required by the Northern/Danske Bank plug-in. The reason I use the Northern/Danske Bank format is merely because I already knew the details of the format, available here.
I'll happily share my Excel VBA file with anyone who'd like to use it (at their own risk) as a starting point for their own solution.
I hope this will be of help or interest.

With some setting up within Sage, later versions can import bank data in to the reconciliation but I found this to be so fiddly, that it was easier to reconcile manually.
For a start, there did not appear to be a way of posting supplier/ customer payments. The only option seemed to be nominal codes.
I accept I am no Sage expert, and it may have been pilot error, with that conclusion
You can import supplier / customer payments / receipts by changing the type to PP or PA and SR or SA and using the account reference field, this wont of course allocate these against invoices though..

Hello everyone.. sorry for late replies, its been hectic.
Bro - I have considered the CSV route, I just wanted to make sure I hadnt missed anything on the program. Old bird gets out of date, that sort of thing!
Thanks also Bill and Jeremy. I was chatting with Sage the other day and the guy actually suggested that if Sage One continues to do well, they may stop bothering with the desktop version (SHOCK HORROR! I dont like the cloud programs as you can only view one page at a time, and you are donald ducked if the internet goes down!)
Hey guys.. sorry to dredge this up again... There is an EBanking facility on Sage, but I am struggling to set it up. Does anyone know how? I have downloaded the plug in for my bank account, but I am not sure what to do next?? Anyone know?
That's what I was saying in my earlier post. If your bank has a fee paying service you can construct a CSV file and then convert it into a file that "looks like" a Danske Bank fee paying file (I have an Excel file that'll do this) and use the Danske Bank plugin in Sage to import the statement file. In other words you can use your bank's non fee-paying statement/transaction details and import them into Sage.
Sorry Bro, you did say that, and I just lost all memories during sleep :$ Sorryyyy
I will have a go at what you are saying. Is there anything online that shows me what the Danske file looks like, so I can recreate?
Any ideas on paypal import? I have a client who uses one account, and has USD, Euro and GBP going through it. Well, its a rocking nightmare at the year end to unpick and analyse. There is a spreadsheet export, and I was hoping that with some jiggery-pokery, it could be messed with, to import to sage??? You think??
Aw sweetie, I did read your link and all I saw was blah blah blah blah! LOLOL I still don't understand how to set up a spreadsheet from all that jargon. I was hoping I could find an image of the spreadsheet - hoping that the visual will make more sense :$
I'm attaching an Excel file (it contains some VBA code) that I use to create the file that will comply with the Danske Bank specification. I hope it is reasonably intuitive to figure out how to populate the yellow cells and get to the point where you have a .DAT file in the Output directory. You'll need to install the Danske Bank plug-in by following the instructions on WebLinks | Sage e-Banking and then edit the appropriate bank record to set Northern / Danske Bank as the Bank Type under Electronic Banking.
I hope this will work for you but if you have any difficulties I could try to convert an Excel statement file for you and send you the macro file I used to get the job done if I have to tweak it in any way. You can use my Onion contact details if you need to.
Thanks for this. I will see if I can fathom it, once I get a little time. My experience with importing to Sage has largely been taking an excel file with row 1 containing headers which match the details in Sage - date, code, ref, net, vat, etc. So, this is very new to me!
Ian, just picked up on this as I am going to take on a client who have a lot of bank transactions,
so anything I can do to speed up the process would be great.
I looked at the Danske bank info, but it might as well be in Martian (maybe it is!) for the amount
I understood it - can you please send me your Excel spreadsheet for me to look at ?
I'm not surprised the Danske Bank info was impenetrable. I had the advantage of being able to access data files that conformed to the specification when I put this together. Seeing a real life example makes all the difference.
The Excel macro file is attached to my Sept 16 2013 post above. I'm happy to talk you through things or share a screen if it helps you to get up and running. Also happy to send you the file if you have difficulties accessing the link above. You can contact me via the details on the Onion site.

Cheers me dears :)
Not sure if was dreaming or not but I think i received an email from SAGE last week saying that version 2016 will have bank feeds like the online accounts packages.
Not been to their roadshow this year and expect it would have been mentioned there?
Version 2016 should be out in the next few weeks I expect.
