Tax refund message on Sage payroll
Permalink Closed

Hi all

I am very frazzled this afternoon and brain has gone completely dead so apologies if I am being really stupid. I am just processing a payroll run on Sage for a Client who is already late with getting me the figures for it!! One of the Employees is on SSP and when I save his details I am getting a Tax refund due message for him. I am sure I just process it all and give him the refund but there is a nagging voice saying I need HMRC to tell me to pay the refund....no idea why I am getting this blooming niggly doubt. Anyone out there help to put my mind at rest please and confirm I just run the Payroll and give him the refund?

Thanks

Carrie

Hi Carrie,

Yes, just run the payroll and pay him the refund (well the refund will be added to his net pay).  I think the message just relates to an employee being in a trade dispute, as you can't pay them tax refunds if they are on strike!

Sage payroll will always 'warn' you of an impending tax refund, no doubt so you can have a double check. If someone has been off all week sick and potentially is going to receive around £34 ssp (assuming 3 waiting days ) then there would almost certainly be a refund due if they had been earning considerably higher in the preceding weeks and paying tax.

Hi Both

Thank you so much for replying, sorry it has taken so long for me to read your replies but have been laid up since that day with asthma and a very bad chest infection, that was the reason for the woolly head and the bad day! I went to bed, got some sleep  and sorted it in my head the next day.

Thank you both anyway :)

Kindest regards

Carrie

Hi Carrie,

Sorry to hear you haven't been well and hope you are feeling better now. Glad you got it sorted.
