Website design scam (again)

Hello all,

Quick note to warn you of companies claiming to have been passed your details by other bookkeepers/accountants or the ICB and offering web design services.

ICB does not sell on details, most likely they have either just found your website or on your professional body's directory (I doubt AAT or IAB sell details).

They call you and point you to other sites they have done for members, it is a complete lie as these members have never heard of them.

ICB have had a few calls regarding Web Works Internet.

So just be extra careful as chances are (and a quick Google search of them would suggest) you wont get a website, just your card cleared out.

Cheers James,

and also the magazine for handicapped local kiddies whose puppy needs an operation etc. brigade is coming out of the woodwork in force.

Sure that there really are some real magazines for good causes out there but if I've never seen or heard of the magazine why do they think that we are going to pay for advertising in it.

Its only Thursday and I've had six of them on the phone this week so far.

I've actually adopted a new game of tieing them up in knots by treating it as though they are looking for an accountant and I start talking about my charges, etc.

Todays was telling me that the magazines are £3 so I launched into how many units they are expecting to sell, what there fixed costs are, whats the variable cost per unit, will they need me to evaluate all of this, etc.

Evenetually even the most die hard of them give up but it makes for fun sales practice whilst you're torturing them.

My view of charities has become even more jaundiced since realising that the owner of the local clothes for the poor charity warehouse owns a Lamborgini.

Shaun.
