Staff suggestion scheme

Hi everyone

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim06600.htm

I'm wondering whether anyone has had experience of dealing with staff suggestion schemes. Basically its a scheme run by HMRC whereby if an employee generates an idea outside of their normal course of business and it generates financial benefits for the company that employee can receive £5K (Income tax and NI free).

I have a couple of specific questions:

1.Can employees receieve a max of £5K per year or per suggestion scheme? (ie could you run two suggestion schemes a year)

2.What is the scope of "outside their normal course of duties" - there seems to be a potential grey area. Would a sales staff be able to advise on an admin task that saves money relating to the sales process?

Thanks

Rich.
