Just wondered if any one can offer any advice. Wondered if ŕ persons credit rating hindered the chance to be an accountant. Fully qualified accountant is my long term aim but at present i do not have a good credit rating. I dont have any ccj and ive never been bankrupt. I dont have ŕ criminal record either but my credit rating is poor and we aré currently on a dmp. Does anyone know if this would stop anyone employing me in the future, once im qualified. As some one kindly pointed out today, why would anyone employ you to do their accounts when you cant manage your own. Fair point i suppose but everyones situation is different. I also wondered if i would get refused membership for aat and such like.
I suppose i just want to know if im wasting my time.
Hi Ann Marie - I'm pretty certain your credit rating won't stop you being an accountant as long as you don't have CCJ's and haven't been bankrupt. My credit ratings crap so I looked into this a while back before taking tax exams and there was no problem. I think if you have been bankrupt you have to tell the professional accounting body who you are registered with i.e. ACCA and they make decisions on individual cases. Even if you are bankrupt it doesn't definitely mean you can't be an accountant.
You can still be good at managing other people accounts if you're rubbish with you're own money. I'm terrible with my own money, much more careful with other peoples!
Thanks rachel, i feel much more positive now. To be honest we are really trying to get straight and hopefully by the time im qualified ( in years to come) then it may be better. A lot of employers do credit checks now which scares me slightly.

Have you accessed your credit report online recently? Noddle is free to access however I prefer Equifax. I also have a bad credit rating due to when I wasn't working everything defaulted. I now have to wait until 2016 for all my settled defaults to drop off and since they defaulted I have kept all of my credit agreements up to date with no missed payments. I hope that by 2016 when they do come off that this will improve it. I also plan to write notices of correction on each one to explain why I got into difficulty however I imagine this won't make much difference.
Do you know why your credit is bad? Is it down to defaults? Is your electoral roll up to date? Do you have any joint accounts with your partner or anyone else?
