Do you network with other accountants?
Permalink Closed

At recent networking events I've really enjoyed spending time chatting to other accountants, sharing experiences, tips and advice.  I was wondering if there were any accountant / book-keeping specific networking groups in Surrey that you knew about?

As many of us run small businesses, often with different non-competing client bases I think there would be great value in working together, what do you guys think?

Esther

I went along to a Quickbooks seminar and met up with a few guys in the same boat as me. We meet up once a quarter for a chat and a moan.. perhaps seek out an accountancy based seminar? Free software days?

I have done it in the past its a good way to forge relationships for the future. I was invited to one recently with an accountant but unfortunately I couldn't make it, instead I was invited in to meet them at their offices.

Hi Jenny,

Yes we did, we really should put a date in the diary and meet up, mines a cup of black tea and a sticky bun! No good for the diet I am now on!

How are you keeping? It seems a long time ago now.

Hi,

It does seem a long time ago, when really it was only a few months! I am good thank you, extremely busy and much in need of further staff (a somewhat fruitless search so far!). How about you?

Let me know a couple of dates in October and we'll get something sorted.

Hi,

Was it really only a few months ago?

Yes business is good, seem to be forever chasing people, I am expecting to have a mad rush in December even though some I have been emailing since May!

I'll have a look in the diary and send you an email to let you know, I have a mad few weeks as I have a job which has to be finished, we are on tight deadlines.

I saw your post looking for staff, sounds like you are mega busy.

Speak soon.

Yes that's a good idea but when we've been to these things we end up committing a large chunk of time to the software seminars and only get 30 mins at break to network.  I was thinking more of a dedicated 1 hour coffee and catch up group for book-keepers / accountants.

If such a group doesn't exist and I arranged something do you think people would come?

AccoutingWeb set a meeting up in July at the Roof Gardens in London in conjunction with Clear Books. It was great to meet up with other accountants in an informal setting. Clear Books have actually decided on the back of that to make it a quarterly event and are holding another one in November. Although it is hosted by the software company, apparently it is just an informal get together like the last one.

The details are here if anyone is interested - http://www.tickandbash.com/

You even get free drinks if you wear the T-shirt they provide on the door!

I meet every month with the London ICB members to do some CPD training (about an hour) and then network/socialise.

There is a Surrey meet too. You could e-mail info@karenjewellltd.co.uk for details. Can't speak for Surrey but the London meeting is open to members and non-members.
