Use of home as an expense

How much can a CIS subcontractor charge for the use of his home whilst getting his accounts in order?

It's not something I have done before so need some guidance.

I will be charging some myself this year as I have had more work.  Not bothered previously as not worth it.

I believe £4 per week is the amount that HMRC wont question

I say this because as a contractor, he is no doubt out on site most of the day, so how much could he really put through over this. If he was working at home full time, I would push for more, but in this case, I would just go for £4 a week

Can we include water bills in that calculation?

Yes, water rates can be included. I wrote the article for Scotland where we don't pay for water.

Don't worry - we do pay for it - just not metered (at the moment). It's still included in the Council Tax.
