Does anyone run Sage 50 Accounts Client Manager (multi business) with a Windows 8 operating system?
My old and cranky laptop needs updating, so I was on the brink of buying a nice shiny new one the other day when hubby (a bit of an IT expert!) said 'I presume your Sage will run ok on it - best check first...' Well my Sage 50 Client Manager is v19, 2013 - only one version off the latest, so I assumed it would be ok. BUT, looking at the sage website, I'm not so sure now. It says its latest version is ok with Windows 8, but I think I read whilst hunting around the internet that it couldn't guarantee earlier versions wouldn't crash. - Except I can't now find where I read that!
If I have to upgrade Sage 50, it will be £1,000 plus, added to the price of the laptop. So, does anyone currently run (successfully!) their Sage Client Manager on Windows 8, without problem?
You could always buy your new Laptop with Windows 7.
Manufacturers such as Dell (business, not home) are still offering windows 7 until Microsoft realise that a computer isn't a mobile phone and people actually need to work on them rather than spending their time being able to skip between freindface, twitter, and whatever other unsocial media is the flavour of the minute.
Sure that MS will fix W8 with the next operating system. Sometimes I think that MS alternate good operating systems and crap just to make the good one's seem that much better. (think about it... 98 to ME to XP to Vista to 7 to 8... Are you seeing a trend there!)
As an alternative there are lots of guides on the net to making XP and W7 programs work with W8 and even make W8 look and feel like a better operating system (W7) as from what I read, much of the decent stuff is still there but with the noddy front end bolted onto it.
Of course things such as media player have been removed from the operating system which seems strange as they seem to be making it more home rather than business oriented.
Just a couple of suggestion to try and stop you from having to bolster Sage's coffers.
Hope that it helps,
kind regards,
Shaun.

I've just replaced two of my machines (one was running Vista...yikes!) and I had the option of having Windows 7 or 8. My IT guy recommended sticking with 7 as it won't be obsolete for ages and he had heard Windows 8 was not working well for businesses. By the way I'm on the latest version of Sage and it is a big improvement, lots of 'send to Excel' buttons and some decent drill down facilities at last! Probably not worth an extra grand though!

Brilliant! 'we're going to die' Love the IT Crowd, thanks for that...as a person who will never add the letters 'lol' in a message (apart from just then!) I really made a bit of a snorting noise....'snorts out loud maybe? sol
