2013 SA Return due 2nd Jan 2014 - Late Filing Penalty Received.

Bit of a laugh.  I'm 99.9% certain that this is a mistake but just wondered if anyone else is getting strange penalty notices for Self Assessment.

I really would have thought the HMRC computer wouldn't permit a human error of 2013 Return to be penalised before 31st January.

This isn't a run of the mill case but still the £100 penalty has been issued on 26th November when Online, the DUE date is given as 2nd January.

I think you will need to double check YOUR records/dates. HMRC do not make mistakes. Maybe it is something you overlooked.

(Managed to type that with a straight face as well).

HaHaHaHa.  They say half of the joke is in the surprise.  I went instantly from "whats he mean, check MY records indeed" to "Laugh Out Loud".   Definitely a Frank Carson moment biggrin

It wasn't a penalty in the form of a dodgy email was it?

Nah Michelle! An actual, conventional penalty notice that is wrong on both the filing date and charged before that date anyway. The year should have been stated as 2010 is a third error and that they've only just requested 2010 a fourth. no

I rang them up and eventually was told this is a known issue. I also yesterday received their letter dated 25 November which removes the requirement to file for 2013. In other words, they shouldn't have requested it in the first place.

Stuck for words.

Tim
