Excel advanced training course required
Permalink Closed

Hi all

I am a pretty proficient user of Excel but the new client I've just agreed to work for needs more than I currently know and so I need to go on a course, or use a self study course to get more out of Excel.

They use a lot of pivot tables, VLOOOKUP/HLOOKUP etc all of which I am fine with but it's the VBA/Macro side of things that I've never used and am not comfortable with as yet.

Any ideas on where I can find a (reasonably priced!) course?

I don't fancy studying solely from a book as I'd like to have example scenarios to try out on screen. I know that some textbooks and training books take you through it step by step but speed is of the essence and I don't want to have to set up all the scenario spreadsheets myself.

Thanks in advance

Clare

sign up to the Excel is fun channel on Youtube.

I actually thought that I was pretty good at Excel until I started watching those video's.... My God can that guy make the product dance and sing and its all done in a practical, down to earth, we're all in this together and I'm no better than you manner.

I particularly like with Youtube that you can just keep going back and trying bits again and again until you get it right.

My experience of putting people on advanced Excel courses to date has been that what a lot of tutors think is advanced is what finance professionals tend to think of as Peter and Jane do Excel type level and you often find that you know more Excel than the tutor does!

Despite the name of that Excel channel its got some of the best most comprehensive tutorials that I have found anywhere.

If its helps to convince you the channel has got over 2000 videos and nearly 124,000 signed up followers (of which I'm one).

Here's a link to get you started : www.youtube.com/user/ExcelIsFun

You can also download data from the site although I've not done that myself (My approach has been finding videos related to real life issues that I've been having so already have the data).

If you decided that you wanted a book with data on CD then Data Analysis and Business Modelling is the best that I've found.

I use Excel 2007 mostly so this is my version :

www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Office-Excel-2007-BPG-others/dp/0735623961/ref=tmm_pap_title_0

There is also a 2010 version. The 2013 version isn't released until 31st December.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Thanks Shaun. I'll have a look at YouTube. You've hit the nail on he head as with a course I don't want to spend good money only to find it's all stuff I already know, hence asking on here Any thoughts on Excelwithbusiness? Thanks Clare

Not sure why paragraph breaks don't come out when I'm using my phone. I don't type like that usually!
