I'm just starting out in the world of freelance bookkeeping and wondered if anyone has any tips on how to approach accountancy firms for potential work.
Firstly I'm just not sure of the best approach. Should I write (snail mail), email, enclose a cover letter and basic CV/profile or go full on with more glossy marketing type material?
What are Accountants priorities when accessing the ability of a new bookkeeper and how can I best highlight these in order to spark interest?
It would be great to hear about your successes and failures, what worked what didn't? Especially any Accountants out there - it would be really great to get your take on this.
Once you've had a read post any follow up questions here and we'll try to put together a more personal answer (January's a bad month for getting long individual replies I'm afraid).

I think I need to be quite targeted and thoughtful in any approach. I've joined a couple of local networking groups which have members who are accountants so I think I will use these as a staring point before spending loads of time on a mass email campaign.
I do realise January is probably not the best time anyway, so I will take a step back for the time being.
BTW, I've been watching the forum posts while getting qualified and they have been by far the best source of information and advice Thanks again.
