I have just set up my own bookkeeping company in Peterborough, but it is slow getting off the ground (cold calling isn't my strong point), although a few potential customers. If anyone has any extra work that they want to pass on, then please keep me in mind.
When I started off I went through the whole of the yellow pages and Thomson Local and anyone with an email address I sent them an email of what I could offer etc and the fact I was just starting up - various benefits here - you don't have to speak to anyone, you can do this day or night, you can use the same email each time, you can contact 100's (I think I stopped at almost 4000!) businesses!
It worked for me, got my foot in the door, got recommended to others and so on!
Best of luck, there's plenty of work out there!
Hi Carol Try a free advert on Gumtree - might take a month or two, but I gained my biggest client from there! Also for your potentials- getting to know something about a business sector/business owner that you can drop into a conversation often helps - shows an interest in them/their business. Recommendations are often the best way in so dont be afraid to ask existing customers at some point. Good luck with it
