VT for bookkeeping and accounts. Unlimited companies and once you've used it you won't want to go back to anything else. You can get a two month free trial on their site.
I don't really do Payroll but have one small company for which I use 12pay.
Take a look at the sticky "Convince me that I don't need Sage" thread for a really good unbiased discussion on this topic (also goes into tax software).
kind regards,
Shaun.

We were using MYPAYE but are moving away as it's not as great as we hoped and often have glitches that need support.
We are moving over to Moneysoft Payroll Manager. It doesn't look that user friendly but it works and picks up on errors that MYPAYE doesn't.. like incorrect input of NINO etc.
I think Sage Payroll is excellent but it's probably only worth having if you have enough clients, I'm not sure what the breakdown between payroll and Sage 50 is but I am paying about £1800 plus vat for both via the accountants club.
I use QuickBooks for bookkeeping, Taxcalc for tax and Moneysoft for Payroll. I'm really happy with all 3. They are very user friendly, reliable. Customer service from MOneysoft has been very good.
£1800 for the both, Rob? Christ, you hitched up your skirt there, didn't you!! LOL.. how many clients is that for??!! Does that include SAPA and Tax??
I have Sage 50 client manager (haggled to less than half price in the first year then cancelled the annual subscription until a new client comes along with Sage 2014)
Basic Tools for PAYE
Sage Accounts Production Advanced and Sage Taxation
I use VT for accounts, Andica for tax, Moneysoft for payroll. Happy with all 3. Am with Shaun, having taken his recommendation of VT and having tried several other packages, I much prefer it and like the cost too
I have a client who has a 2011 Sage Line 50 version and has two users with only partial access, however they have complete access. The problem is that
they do not seem to have a default "manager" log in that has full access to set up new users and access levels. I spoke to Sage and as this is an older version
support will not be available after Feb 2014. Anyone out there have any ideas how to reinstated manager login in.
