Starting an additional business

Hiya, I'm currently doing the accounts for a friend who has her own LLP which is an online shop selling party bags for kids. She has just called and asked if there is any reason why she can't open a separate business for wedding favours.

She will register the business with HMRC as another partnership with her mum and treat it completely separate from the other one, is there any reason why she can't do this?

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,

There is no reason at all why someone can't run more than one business, unless they are artificially seperated to avoid VAT.

Not sure what 'wedding favours' is but if it is to stand in for a drunken groom at the crucial moment you should put her in touch with our very own Shaun!

Um no 'wedding favours' are gifts for the guests but might be something to give some thought to

I make lots of cake!

And biscotti - been suggested I open my own business selling my biscotti alone! Might be easier than book-keeping on some days.
